Sara
Neikirk served for 10 years as the Executive Director
of Community in Schools, an organization working to
keep Columbus children in school to graduate. Although
she retired this summer, she is now working on their
new Homeless Prevention Project.
In
the spring of 2008, Sara received The Justice Award
presented by Church Women United for her involvement
in the community . She has served as director of the
Columbus YWCA and started the pre school there.
She
has traveled widely for humanitarian causes. Sara is
currently serving on the board of the Homeless Foundation
and the board of COVA - Center of Vocational Alternatives.
The program for September 13 was "Women of Africa."
Sara attended the International YWCA Conference (held
every 4 years) in Kenya. She spoke about the "Giving
Hope" project to help orphaned children and the
justice system of the country. She also visited in Rwanda
while she was in Africa.
